We're having an "Austin Coffee Showdown" during June and July at Texas Coworking ( http://texascoworking.com ) to determine who makes the best cup of coffee in town.

64 coffeeshops competing in a "Final Four" style showdown for who can deliver the java goods.

We're looking for entrants, judges, sponsors and attendees. Our twitter account is http://twitter.com/coffeeshowdown

The truth is, the atmosphere of your coffee shop is really an extension of your product. Imagine a Dunkin Donuts with the decorations of a Starbucks. It wouldn't work. That's why each Dunkin Donuts, from the outside sign and door to the inside tables and counter, looks the same. It's like they're cloned, and that's done for a reason...they know what works for THEIR target market.

Greg, I agree the post did not mention the quality of the coffee shops. I honestly had not been to halve of the shops mentioned when writing the post. The quality of the coffee shops was not really the point of the post though. The over all thoughts when writing the post was to showcase the helpfulness of the Austin Twitter environment, two a snapshot in time of Austin Coffee shops using Twitter at that time, and three a list of Austin Coffee shops for anyone else who might have the exact question I did on that day. This article was more of an experiment to me of Social Media, local recommendations, and local business buy-in to Twitter. Your point is well taken and I do appreciate your input and for taking time to read the post.

I can think of few things more superficial and pointless than grading coffee places by their Twitter coolness. Talk about awarding only sizzle and not the steak.

It's like rewarding politicians only for what they say and not holding them accountable for what they do.

Annabelle, I am going to have to check out http://twitter.com/sodade ! All of the coffee shops mentioned in this article were recommended by Austin Twitter friends with in a few day time period. So all coffee cafes mentioned were not chosen by me, I just did a little research after the fact. However, now I am excited to check out this 'new to me' Austin Coffee shop! Thanks again!
